Group Kayeta Puja in Maryland



Newah Organization of America (NOA) organized 4th Group Kayeta Puja Ceremony on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Hindu Temple of Adelphi, Maryland. Total seven boys went through the kayeta puja in the program.

The ceremony began and welcome all with traditional Instruments Dhimey and Bhusya on a beautiful summer day. The ceremony was performed and concluded by renowned Newah Priest Mr. BasavRajopadhyay, preparations underway and ceremony began around 11:00 am for five hours.

This year participators were: Mr. BarsatThapa (son of Basanta& Padma ShresthaThapa), Mr. IshaanShrestha (son of Prabhash&RinaShrestha), Mr.KisnMathema (son of Suraj& Puja Mathema), Mr. SahilShrestha (son of Kishor&ShovaShrestha), Suvan Raj Shrestha (son of Raj &Shritu Joshi Shrestha), Mr Shiva and UtsavManandhar (son of Suman& Bandana Manandhar). from four different states Maryland (2), Virginia (2), New York (2) and West Virginia (1) participated in the Group Kayeta Puja Ceremony. More than 200 persons including parents, their relatives, friends, community members and well wishers attended the ceremony to blessed young boys. Attendees enjoyed a light breakfast and delicious vegetarian lunch after the ceremony.

NOA President Mr. Ram Lal Shrestha welcomed all participants, their families, and guests, and expressed appreciation for their participation in this very important ritual ceremony. Mr. Shrestha thanked the NOA EC members, their spouses and volunteers for their tireless efforts to run this event successfully. He also expressed special thanks to the Embassy of Nepal Charge d’ Affaires A.I. Mr. Rishi Ram Ghimire, NOA founding members and First Past President Mr. Beda Pradhan and his spouse Mrs. Vidya Pradhan for serving as Nayo and Naki. He also thanks to the The Hindu Temple for providing venue for the ceremony and extend its special thanks to Mrs. Chitra Shrestha for the coordinating preparation of puja, Airzone Travel for printing brochures, Mr. Kiran Shrestha for photography, Mr. Yagya Man Shakya for videography, Mr. Sushil Lal Shrestha for sound system, and Mr. Bishwo Raj Thapa (enepalese.com) and all Media for covering the event.

Newah priest Mr. BasavRajopadhyay initiated the Pitri (Nandimukhi) Shradda with Past President Mr. Bed Pradhan, inviting his ancestors and those of all 7 participants. The puja proceeded in a complete and fully traditional way, finishing around 4:00 PM with attendees receiving blessings from the priest. The crowd enjoyed gathering to witness the boys’ ceremonial seven steps on betel nuts and betel nut leaves, with highly entertaining and lively chases by the maternal uncles.

The festivities concluded with thanks from NOA President to all those who contributed food and beverages to all participants. The food contributors were: Mr./Mrs. Ram LalShrestha, Mr./Mrs. Sushil Lal Shrestha, Mr./Mrs. Mahindra Pradhan, Mr./Mrs. Pushkar Prajapati, Mr./Mrs. Rajesh Lal Shrestha, Mr./MrsDivakar Dhaubhadel, Mr./Mrs. Yagya Man Shakya, Mr. KiranRanjit, Mr./Mrs. Season Shrestha, Mr./Mrs. Ravi Pradhan, Mr./Mrs. Bishomver Pradhan.

Naki. NOA First President Mr. Bed Pradhan distributed certificate of completion to all participants and NOA president Mr. Ram Lal Shrestha presented NOA memorable gifts to all participants parents, Nayo and Naki of the ceremony Mr./Mrs Bed Pradhan and Embassy of Nepal Charge d’ Affaires A.I. Mr./Mrs. Rishi Ram Ghimire. Mr. Suman Manandhar and Mr. Prabhash Shrestha, parent of participant expressed special thanks for the well organized event and lively ceremony and wish NOA for a success these kinds of events in future.
